FLAT RAT is Sarai Duenas’ brain child. Assisted by her father Abe, this tag team found inspiration and mission in the lives and conditions of their friends and family members.

Sarai Duenas explains.

“ADHD, Dyslexia, anxiety, depression, autism and memory loss are mental health challenges that many people struggle with everyday.”

FLAT RAT’s mantra is “Own IT, don’t let it own you”. Sometimes we feel flattened and that’s ok. What matters is to get back up and push through your challenges. Flat Rat’s designs are meant to empower because we want you to love who you are, and how you look.

SUSTAINABLE

FLAT RAT applies vintage hand-operated chainstitch embroidery (direct to garment and patched) and old world cobblery and sneaker-craft to curated and customer-provided wearables; rebranding and up-cycling garments with original, skate and surf-inspired designs.

Whether it’s turning dad’s madras plaid blazer into sneaks, or giving new life to selvedge denim and flannels, FLAT RAT applies old school hand-craft to the creation of unique, sustainable fashion for people who love clothes but care even more about the people wearing them.
